On March 31, the Shajing Qinjiang Bridge across the Pinglu Canal was completed and opened to traffic. Reporters learned from the Pinglu Canal Group that to date, 25 of the 27 planned overpass bridges along the Pinglu Canal have been completed and come into operation, marking the imminent conclusion of the entire bridge project and laying a solid foundation for the full navigation of the Pinglu Canal.
The Shajing Qinjiang Bridge over the Pinglu Canal features a double-tower cable-stayed design, with "portal"-shaped cable towers standing 113 meters tall. The overall shape of the upper crossbeam of the bridge towers draws inspiration from the surging waves stirred up by a massive ship setting out to sea, creating a "gateway" image of setting sail on a distant voyage. It also subtly integrates the dual cultural imagery of a "grand gate" and the "awakening lion", vividly infusing Lingnan charm into the clean lines of modern engineering.
The bridge has a total length of 896 meters with a main span of 270 meters. It is designed for a speed of 60 kilometers per hour, with a deck width of 40 meters and a configuration of eight lanes in both directions. The structural safety rating is Class I. The navigational clearance provides a vertical height of 19.1 meters and a horizontal width of 234 meters, meeting the requirements for the safe passage of 5,000-ton vessels.
