President Xi Jinping's speeches during the 18th BRICS Summit reflect the wider global community's aspirations for fairness, stability and shared progress, and present a timely and forward-looking vision for strengthening cooperation among BRICS countries and the wider Global South, international experts said.

Xi, when attending the second day of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India, on Sunday, called for the Global South to jointly defend the rule of law in international affairs, safeguard the basic norms of international relations including sovereign equality, noninterference in internal affairs, and the peaceful settlement of disputes, and ensure that international law and international rules are applied to all.

He also urged support for multilateralism and the upholding of the authority and role of the United Nations.

Maarij Farooq, deputy editor-in-chief at Daily Ittehad Media Group and the Pakistan Economic Network, said that Xi's remarks at the 18th BRICS Summit "present a timely and forward-looking vision for strengthening cooperation among BRICS countries and the wider Global South".

Farooq said that Xi's emphasis on sovereign equality, multilateralism, international law and the peaceful settlement of disputes reflects the growing demand for a more balanced and representative international system.

"At a time of increasing geopolitical uncertainty, President Xi's message is significant because it places dialogue, cooperation and shared development at the center of international relations," Farooq added.

Xi, when attending the first day of the BRICS Summit on Saturday, noted that as it marks the 20th anniversary of its establishment, the BRICS countries have actively explored development paths suited to their own national conditions, setting an example of self-strengthening through unity.

Xi said that the BRICS countries should deepen mutual understanding through communication and dialogue, properly handle differences, and ensure that BRICS cooperation continues to move forward steadily.

"President Xi's remarks reflect that BRICS' solidarity, cooperation and contribution to global peace and progress have deepened during the last 20 years," said Karori Singh, former director of the South Asia Study Centre at the University of Rajasthan in India.

Balew Demissie, a senior consultant at the Policy Studies Institute of Ethiopia, said, "President Xi's call for BRICS to be a pioneer of our times speaks to the wider global community's aspirations for fairness, stability and shared progress."

Khalid Taimur Akram, executive director of Pakistan Research Center for a Community with Shared Future in Islamabad, said that in his speech, Xi presented a clear vision for the future of BRICS, emphasizing the importance of unity, cooperation and shared development among the Global South countries.

"President Xi highlighted peace, development, technological innovation, cultural understanding and better global governance. These are areas that are very important for the future of developing countries," said Akram.

Experts also hailed China's dedication to building a fairer and more equitable technology system, which will bring more benefits to the BRICS countries and the broader Global South community.

Xi's speech offers a compelling and coherent vision of BRICS as a pioneering force that stands firmly on the right side of history, advancing innovation, peace, mutual civilizational learning, and a fairer global governance system, said Dicky Budiman, a senior researcher at both YARSI University in Indonesia and Griffith University in Australia.

If BRICS members build on this platform with active technology-sharing, it has real potential to narrow the digital divide, he added.
